Well, what a whirlwind of a year 2016 was!
We seemed to say goodbye to so many well loved figures (from the world of entertainment, I'm not talking about Garforth town at the moment!).
Ralph Backhouse wasn't a celebrity, but he was a “star” at Garforth Town.
Nobody cared for the club more than Ralph. He was part of that small group vital at every club in non-league football.
Few people are at a football club for life these days, the majority of people associated with football clubs are just passing through.
To many, a football club is a stepping stone and that's fine, as long as they respect the history, feelings and efforts that have gone before, and will go on, after they've made their move.
Some drift through or simply fall out of love for whatever reason.
Many players and coaches have gone on to other things and are always welcomed back because of their affinity to the club (see our recent legends games for examples!).
We've had a fair bit of transition in the last twelve months, but that's just like any other small chapter we've had in the clubs 52 year history. We all love a roller-coaster don't we?!
Many, many people like Ralph have cared enough over that 52 years to keep us going and that's what really makes Garforth Town special.
A massive thanks to all of our supporters, volunteers, players, coaches, sponsors and visitors.
Happy New Year to you all, here's to 2017...
Up the Miners!
