Kevin Terheardt moved to full-back to replace the unavailable Jack McGahan, whilst the return of captain Dan Coupland in midfield allowed Karl Fitzgerald to move back to a more familiar holding role.
Prior to kick-off this was a venue where Garforth had yet to taste victory, but this statistic was blown away in style by an outstanding team performance.
Town set off on the front foot, with the first couple of chances falling James Burgess' way. A turn and shot 20 yards out went just wide, before he drew a stop from the feet of Hemsworth 'keeper Jake Teale after receiving the ball on the edge of the box. The hosts struggled throughout to mount any real pressure on the Town goal with Toby Wells' only save of note coming on 17 mins from Layton Swaine's low strike.
The action soon reverted back to the other end of the field and we deservedly took the lead a minute later. A corner kick came out to Fitzgerald just outside the box who found space to score his first goal for the club with a great strike into the far corner of the net. It was 2-0 on 30 mins when a cross-field pass was headed on by a defender straight to Alex Burton who volleyed home. Jamie Barkway almost got among the goals shortly after when Sam Denton headed on Jed Zanos' free kick and the defender drew a save at the near post, but in any case the offside flag was raised. Burgess went close again just before half time when another turn and shot on the edge of the box was narrowly off-target.
Former Town midfielder Jason Davis fired wide from the edge of the box on 51 mins, but it was soon three when Burton burst into the box and supplied Coupland to his left who poked the ball into the net. Substitute Joe Colley scored his second goal in as many games to make it 4-0 on 72 mins with a fine strike after cutting in from the left. Then, on 82 mins fellow sub Hass Gorji rounded off the scoring by meeting Colley's delivery with a towering header.
A win which takes Paul Marshall's side up to 2nd in the table until tea-time today at least. The Miners are back at the Bannister Prentice Stadium next Saturday where Garstang are the visitors in an FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round tie (kick-off 3pm).
