This was believed to be the first meeting between the two sides, although there was a familiar face to seasoned Town fans in the Beverley ranks - defender Matt Plummer who scored in our NPL Division 1 North play-off semi-final defeat at Curzon Ashton in 2012.
Amid the picturesque surroundings of Bishop Burton College, the game started evenly with few clear cut chances. Town's pace up front started to cause the hosts problems however and new signing Mo Fadera saw a low shot blocked on 17 mins after a good foray into the box. Sam Cable thought he'd put the Miners ahead on 22 mins when he found the net after beating the last man, but the 'goal' was ruled out for offside. Teammate Max Bauer picked up where he left off from Saturday three mins later though by putting us ahead after Beverley goalkeeper Tom Nicholson had saved Matt Antcliff's shot. Two minutes later our lead was doubled when Antcliff got himself on the scoresheet with a deflected strike from Zachariou's cross.
On 36 mins Beverley's no. 7 got himself into a good position after a run down the right wing, but his shot was straight at Harry Flatters.
A minute after the break Jay Davis' curling strike was just over the crossbar. Shortly after another two goals in as many minutes saw Town into a 4-0 lead. The impressive Fadera raced clear and rounded Nicholson to score from a narrow angle, before Cable headed home a delivery from triallist Reggie Ejupi (brother of Rinor!).
Flatters made a great save to deny a Dexter Ball own goal on 54 mins after a Beavers shot hit the post. There was a good chance for a fifth goal when Fadera broke clear once again; his shot denied by Nicholson before Antcliff hit wide the rebound.
The fifth came instead courtesy of a collector's item goal from Alex Zachariou on 70 mins. Nicholson kept out efforts by Fadera and Bauer, but could do nothing about the fullback's fine strike from just outside the box.
Bauer grabbed his second goal, and fourth in two matches, when he broke down the left and scored with a deft finish over the goalkeeper. Davis had the last word in the last kick of the game to make it seven, his shot into the bottom corner finishing off a well-worked team goal.
An impressive win for a fit and sharp looking Miners as they put in another convincing display against an NCEL Division 1 promotion winner. Paul Marshall's side are back at the Bannister Prentice Stadium this Saturday for what is likely to be a tougher test in last season's NPL Division 1 East champions Hebburn Town (kick-off 1pm).
