In a typically well-fought game between the two sides, Knaresborough had the better of the first half chances. Harry Flatters produced a good save to push wide Knaresborough number 6's header from a corner. Their number 11 hit the near post from a narrow angle, although in the event was ruled offside.
Their number 7's deflected shot was just over the bar on 50 mins as the North Yorkshiremen's chances continued into the second half. It was when Garforth started to exploit the pace of 30th minute sub Mo Fadera that we finally started to put the 'hosts' under real pressure. Fadera broke clear on 52 mins, but his shot was wide of the near post. After Fadera was tripped 20 yards from goal, Charlie Marshall stepped up for the resulting free kick, but it was straight at the 'keeper. It didn't take much longer for Fadera to give The Miners the lead, again breaking down the left he raced into the box and finished well.
Former Garforth captain James Beaston didn't feature for our opponents last night, but two other ex-Town players combined to earn Knaresborough a penalty on 67 mins. Jack Lazenby's strike was blocked in the box, and in our efforts to clear, recently introduced sub Adam Priestley was fouled. Priestley stepped up himself and beat Flatters to level the scores.
As both sides sought a late winner, Knaresborough's number 14 put a low shot just beyond the far post when released by a ball over the top, but five minutes from the end Marshall and Sam Barker combined on the right wing to send in a cross to sub James Burgess who bundled in for the winner. A real confidence boost for the striker after such a long lay-off and hopefully there's more on the way as he regains match fitness.
