Friday night action awaits at home for Town, with Sheffield FC making the trip to West Yorkshire. Considering the league positions and forms of both sides, Garforth seem the favourites to pick up the win but certainly cannot dismiss the battling South Yorkshire outfit.
If the last encounter between the sides is anything to go by, this match should be a thriller. The reverse fixture back in September saw Town claw back from a 3-0 deficit to achieve a remarkable 4-3 victory; topped off with a Matt Antcliff winner in the eighth minute of additional time. The world's first football club haven't had the best of times on the pitch since, as the side currently sit bottom of the NPL East table and eight points from safety.
However, last month saw the visitors appoint Vill Powell as new manager following a poor start to the campaign. His positive impact has reflected on the squad's recent results - picking up four points from their last three league matches. Despite their current league position, this initial uptick in form definitely shows they are determined to fight their way out of the relegation zone. Speaking ahead of Friday, Powell said: "Garforth is going to be another tough test, but with the right mentality and application, we can get something from the game."
Young loanee Josh Ayres has been in prolific form since joining from Rotherham United. The 19-year-old striker has netted thrice in six matches since his arrival in October and prior to facing the Miners has extended his loan to late January. In addition, fellow recent arrival Joe West has achieved Sheffield FC's November player of the month after his transfer from Matlock Town. The left-back has swiftly settled into the starting 11 after an impressive run of defensive performances.
Returning to the Miners, a challenge on Harry Colville early in the 2-0 defeat against Dunston UTS saw him nastily tumble into the dugouts: requiring much treatment and a substitution off the pitch. Although the exact nature of the injury isn't publicly known, it is very unlikely the player will be available for selection on Friday. Furthermore, an injury to Steve Jeff in the warm-up ahead of the Dunston match may rule him out for Sheffield FC also.
Talking last weekend, boss Paul Marshall stated ahead of Friday, "Every game is tough, and we know that. If we play like we did in spells against them [Dunston], we'll win the game." A winnable game on paper lies ahead for Town, but nothing short of a good performance will be required to beat a rejuvenated Sheffield FC.
