With just a handful of games remaining, the Miners head to Dunston UTS in attempt to finish an already impressive campaign strongly. Despite Town going into the affair as underdogs, a spirited and solid display could throw a spanner in the works of expectations.
Two goals in two minutes separated the sides back in November, as the Fed claimed all three points during the second half to make it a 2-0 win. With Garforth's position in the table fairly secure, revenge will have to spur on Paul Marshall's squad in order to rectify the home defeat.
Second-placed Dunston appear almost untouchable at the moment, boasting an unbeaten run of eight matches, including victories over league leaders Cleethorpes Town and third-placed Emley AFC. However, they still trail Cleethorpes by seven points and with a game played more, the NPL East title may be beyond their grasp at this late stage.
Nevertheless, they showed fight to maintain their streak last Saturday in a 1-1 draw against Ossett United. After conceding early on in the game and having striker Sado Djalo shown red after a chaotic brawl, the Fed managed to claw an away point with a set-piece in the second period.
Dunston manager Jon McDonald thought his side "arguably deserved to win the game" and noted his squad is in "really healthy shape with almost everyone back" ahead of the Miners clash. The Fed have also appealed against the suspension of key striker Djalo, but the experienced goal-scorer will likely be unavailable this weekend.
Even without Djalo, the vastly experienced trio behind him of JJ O'Donnell, David Robinson and Dale Pearson have bagged an impressive 39 goals between them in league competition this season, in addition to the other striking option of Scott Robson getting nine goals himself. Robson and O'Donnell both scored against Town in the reverse fixture and will have to be marked closely to avoid a repeat.
Back on the Miners, a 2-0 defeat to Newton Aycliffe last weekend marked a rare home loss for Town as the blustery conditions seemed to favour the visitors. Despite a difficult run of fixtures against teams mostly battling around the top of the table, Paul Marshall's side have managed to pick up points steadily even with injuries often plaguing the side.
Notably, the Aycliffe match saw the return of Nash Connolly after a lengthy spell out of action from injury - making it his first appearance since re-signing with the club.
Although Town shouldn't finish far from their current 9th placed position, this weekend offers an opportunity for the Miners to battle against the odds and provide a test for the in-form Dunston.
Kick Off is at 3pm
