The home side were beset by injuries early on, as Steven Jeff was injured in the warm up, and Harry Colville lasted six minutes before taking a nasty fall into the home dugout.
It was honours even going into the break. Dunston bossed the first quarter and Garforth finished the half the stronger.
The deadlock was broken when Jonathan O’Donnell headed home at the far post.
Before Garforth could get themselves back into the game, they shot themselves in the foot with a defensive error that Scott Robson finished off.
Dunston were fairly comfortable from that point, and despite Garforth coming close a couple of times, they nearly extended their lead in the dying minutes with a header that crashed off the bar from close range.
