Garforth mourns the passing of a great

Jonathan McGourty12 Jan - 09:39

RIP Dennis

It's a sad day for Garforth Town, as we mourn a true club legend, Dennis Sanderson, who passed away yesterday.

Dennis was a popular, well loved figure, and part of the group of "old boys" that have been the backbone of the club for years.
Doing odd jobs, preparing the dressing rooms, fetching all the lost balls on matchdays, and anything else that was needed (including putting the world to rights over a cup of tea, and letting you know how great Alex Ferguson was!).

Right into his eighties, he was still setting off from Pudsey at six in the morning through the week and catching two buses to get here.

Ill health forced Dennis to hang up his Garforth Town teacup a few years ago, but in recent seasons he regularly turned up with his daughter Janet to support the team from the stand.

Everyone at the club would like to pass on our condolences to his wife Dorothy, Daughter Janet, and the rest of his family and friends.
