Mutty Al-Jahadhmy was once again proving a handful and put Town ahead as early as 8 mins with an outstanding solo goal. Cutting his way in from the left he beat two defenders before stroking home from just inside the box.
Lucas Robinson's strike went just beyond the far post as Ferriby grew into the game before there were a couple of chances for Garforth to double their lead. Shots from Charlie Marshall and Al-Jahadhmy were blocked on the edge of the box from Olli Patrick's free kick, then Marshall's wayward shot was redirected by the head of Al-Jahadhmy but only into the arms of Villagers keeper Jonathan Dash.
Shortly after that Kane Richardson's 20-yard strike was claimed by Flatters at the second attempt. Another attempt from Al-Jahadmy on 31 mins saw his low strike saved at the near post after combining with Marshall again.
Ferriby's best chance of the half fell to Charlie Carlisle on 38 mins when he was played through but he could only fire over the bar.
The first chance of note after the break came on 54 mins when Al-Jahadhmy's cross was nearly turned into his own net by Joshua Clarkson, then a long range effort from Richardson was held by Flatters at the second attempt.
Promising substitute Ronnie McGrath almost scored his first goal for the club within four minutes of coming on. Played in by Burgess on 69 mins, his shot was blocked by Clarkson to earn Town a corner.
Burgess almost grabbed one for himself on 78 mins when getting sight of goal, but the striker seemed to be in two minds and the opted-for pass went astray. Another "Burg" chance moments later saw his volley saved after Jamie Barkway headed on Patrick's free-kick.
The visitors had a couple of chances of their own for an equaliser, making for a tense finish. Amid a succession of corners, Charlie Dunkerley's 20-yard effort was deflected wide, as was one from sub James Williamson.
After soaking up the pressure, Paul Marshall's side hit back to finally put the game to bed. McGrath got clear and was tripped in the box by Dash, earning us a penalty kick. With none of last season's penalty takers on the field, Burgess stepped up and fired powerfully into the net, Dash getting a hand to it but couldn't keep it out.
That proved to be the last kick of the game, and Town could celebrate a hard-fought victory. We're next in action on Friday evening with the first of this weekend's double bill against Bridlington Town who visit the BD Community Stadium for an FA Trophy 1st Qualifying Round clash. Kick-off 7:45pm.
