Garforth went into this one hoping to cause an upset against their struggling NPL Premier opponents, but in a nightmare first half the Red Rebels were given far too much respect and had the game pretty much sewn up by 35 mins with three very well-taken goals.
On 4 mins we went behind when Matty Thomson played to Jordan Buckley just inside the box who scored with a cracking strike to Harry Flatters' right.
There weren't many chances for Town in the first half, but the best came on 11 mins when Harry Colville's cross-cum-shot almost sailed into the far top corner, FC keeper Dan Atherton managing to keep it out despite him colliding with the post. Any promise resulting from that was soon dissipated however when the Red Rebels doubled their lead. A snapshot from Buckley was kept out by Flatters but the resulting clearance was straight to Matthew Grivosti 25 yards out who scored with a arrowed finish into the bottom corner of the net.
Flatters saved an effort from visiting captain Adam Le Fondre as they went in search of more goals and it was three on 35 mins when former Town triallist Donald Chimalilo made his way into the box and supplied Grivosti who slid the ball into the net for his second of the game.
Flatters did well to save at the feet of Aaron Atkinson on 41 mins when played through by Buckley. He couldn't prevent a fourth in injury time though when parrying Chimalilo's curling effort straight to the lurking Buckley who tapped home at the far post for his second.
Le Fondre probably should've made it five when given far too much space from Grivosti's pass but he blazed over the crossbar.
At half time Mutty Al-Jahadhmy and Harris Eggleston were brought on and Town did better, with our opponents picking up a couple of cautions in trying to contain the latter.
Ronnie McGrath's shot was headed over the bar to earn a corner on 54 mins, then Oli Patrick was unlucky not to pull a goal back on 68 mins when his curling effort hit the far post. Al-Jahadhmy came close after sub Charlie Marshall twisted and turned in the box, his low strike bringing a fingertip save from Atherton to turn beyond the post. Moments later an Atherton error almost let in sub Luke Aldrich, but the striker couldn't capitalise.
On 82 mins the Red Rebels scored a fifth. A delivery to the far post was headed back by Buckley to Le Fondre who lashed high into the net for his second.
Sub Hamed Sidibe almost scored a sixth as the final whistle approached when getting clear of the Town defence, but Flatters made an excellent save with his feet.
It hadn't been Garforth's day, but the second half performance deserved a goal and home supporters had one to cheer after Al-Jahadhmy was taken down in the box to earn a penalty. Aldrich stepped up and confidently despatched to reduce the arrears.
Such is Garforth's record in the FA Cup that it's been eight years since we last made into September still in the competion, but dreams of a lengthy run are over for another season. We turn our attention to Tuesday's league game when Beverley Town are the visitors (kick-off 7:45pm).
