Garforth and Emley started and ended the day united in their support of the Rainbow Laces campaign, but were at loggerheads over a late Garforth goal that was ruled out in strange fashion.
New signing Michael Tufenkian went straight into the side at centre back in place of injured Karl Fitzgerald.
Garforth started positively and Hass Gorji didn't have to wait too long for a half chance, which he struck well, but the rising shot never troubled the Emley keeper.
Visiting captain Jamie Price (a future quiz question as he also captained Garforth around a decade prior) almost made the briefest of returns when he appeared to impede James Burgess who would have been clear of the back four.
The ref called it as a coming together of players. It would have been a big call to give anything else so early, but he'd have to make a bigger judgement in the closing stages.
Gorji was on the receiving end of a wayward Emley back-pass, but Price got back and used his experience to jockey the Garforth forward away from the danger zone.
After a spell of sustained pressure, Town broke the deadlock on 23 minutes through a precise low shot from Sam Leach, which arrowed into the bottom corner.
A few sloppy moments undid all the hard work when Lewis Whitham was allowed to saunter across the edge of the Garforth box and fire in the equaliser.
Gorji created another half chance for himself with the same result as earlier, before Max Tweddle stunned the Miners and gave Emley a half time lead. A looped ball from one side of the six yard box to the other was gratefully tucked away by Tweddle who found himself in plenty of space.
Soon after the break, Emley had a big chance to steal a third goal, but from a corner kick the ball was somehow blasted over from a couple of yards.
Garforths' increasing pressure as the half went on, told in the 71st minute when a superb team move was finished off by Gorji getting on the end of a Burgess cross.
The big moment of controversy happened minutes later when Burgess outfought his marker and played a through-ball into the box, which Joe Colley deflected into the path of Gorji (who had anticipated brilliantly). The number 10 tucked his chance home and raced away in jubilation.
While the Garforth contingent celebrated, visiting players surrounded the assistant ref, who then called the ref over.
Both minds had been changed for whatever reason and after a lengthy amount of time the goal was disallowed for offside.
There was still time for more late drama, when Colley knocked down a high ball into the path of Burgess, but a last-ditch challenge denied a certain winner.
The phantom goal would be argued about after the final whistle and on social media, but the both teams take a point and move on to the next game.
