With Chris Howarth unavailable, Ben Small suspended and Oliver Hotchkiss still injured starts were given to Dan Turley, Dempsey Smith and Fernando Moke.
Within ten minutes Town had the Lilywhites on the ropes. Moke on the left had his 20 yard shot collected by away keeper Martin Pearson. Four minutes later Paul Walker had his drilled shot from just outside the area well saved. One of the Miners’ big chances came on 18 mins - from a throw in on the right the ball was fed to Adam Priestley who miscued across the goal but found Moke who somehow skied the ball over from 10 yards. Moke, who had been causing problems for the visiting defence, went close again soon after. A determined Priestley made a great run down the right and found Moke inside the area, but his effort was deflected narrowly wide by a Mossley defender.
Then the moment a cynic may well have predicted – in the away side’s second attack of the first half a Lee Constantine effort was blocked by a home defender, only for the ball to find Cameron Dankwah who fired home through a crowded penalty box (28 mins).
Strikers Moke and Priestley swopped sides. On 42 mins Priestley received the ball on the right hand side of the box but placed wide.
Chances were fewer in the second half, the driving wind and rain became more prominent as the half went on. Moke had another chance five minutes in from close range but forced an almost point-blank save from the Lilywhite no1. Dempsey Smith also came close five minutes later but shot just over the bar. The men from Seel Park were reduced to counter-attacking but on a couple of occasions came close to extending their slender lead; Joe Heap and Andy Byrne unable to find the target.
Other opportunities came The Miners’ way but despite throwing everything at the hardworking visitors they were simply unable to make the pressure count. Mossley came away with a victory which sees them go above us in the table.
