Garforth's winless run extended to eight games after being edged out in Derbyshire.
The first couple of chances of the afternoon fell to the Miners; Mick Jones involved in both. On 4 mins he put through Ashley Preece who chipped wide of the post and just a minute later he headed just over the bar from Danny Harris' corner.
Both teams struggled to retain possession on a bobbly surface, and soon afterwards Staveley went closer with a couple of chances of their own. On 6 mins Tom Osborne denied Kieran Watson with his legs after the striker found himself clear and on 17 mins the same man tried to shoot across the keeper after being supplied by Dan Fletcher but his low shot went the wrong side of the upright.
Tim Robertson shot past the far post four mins later after being set up by Spencer Lund and then another chance fell to Watson down the other end after the ball was given away on the right but couldn't hit the target. On 30 mins though the deadlock was broken when a Staveley break forward ended in Kurtis Morley putting through Adam Scott to shoot past Osborne into the net.
Curtly Martin-Wyatt tried his luck from 30 yards soon after but his effort was just wide. On 34 mins Steve Carty's low effort was pushed out wide by Osborne with thankfully no awaiting player to take advantage, but moments later it was 2-0 when Watson's drive was parried by Osborne to the feet of Dan Fletcher who slotted home.
Changes were made at half time to try and claw something back from the game; Mark Simpson and Jack McCarthy replacing Spencer Lund and Tim Robertson respectively and Jones moved back into midfield. Within eight minutes the changes bore fruit. From a Khalid Alali free-kick on 52 mins Preece did well to reach the ball on the byeline on the left and find Martin-Wyatt who smashed home off the underside of the crossbar.
On 61 mins Harris shot wide on the edge of the box, although looked to have been fouled in the process. The home side seemed to have run out of steam and the closest they got to a third was on 64 mins when a dangerous delivery by Scott from the right had to be cleared out of the six-yard box. There was almost a rare goal for McCarthy five mins later when he hooked over the crossbar from Simpson's knockdown in the area and Jones went closer on 75 mins when his header from Khalid Alali's free kick was pushed past the post by Trojans' keeper Chris Butt. Khalid was in on the action again seconds later when he headed just wide via a deflection.
Time was running out and another Khalid free-kick saw Martin-Wyatt head agonisingly wide three mins later. Sadly despite a much-improved second-half performance Town were unable to find an equaliser to claim a precious and probably deserved, point and the Trojans managed to see out a narrow win.
Sadly no video highlights for this one as Jon couldn't make the game.
