BOGOF...

(photo - Curtly Martin-Wyatt receiving his man of the match award from Adie Costello)

It seemed like there was a two for the price of one offer all afternoon at the JS White & co community stadium. Two goals apiece (two for Clipstones' Milner and two headers for the Miners), two penalties (both missed), two strkes against the woodwork from both teams, two sublime bits of skill from supporters (see the video) and we even had a moment when both phys... (erm Paul Cavel and his counterpart) raced onto the pitch together to treat two, thankfully not serious, head injuries.

Curtly Martin-Wyatt made it back into the team with half an hour to spare thanks to his train turning up on time and the target man was soon up to full steam, striking the post just three minutes into his return.
Garforth were a different beast to the team that went down with a whimper against Barton in midweek, but despite an impressive start, the Miners were stunned by a George Milner goal after seven minutes. The nippy front man caused problems all afternoon and was quick to exploit a gap in the Garforth defence before advancing on goal. Tom Osbourne reacted brilliantly to stop his shot but the ball bounced kindly enough for Milner to make his second bite count.

Action man Mick Jones forced a save from Steve Hernandez soon after and the home side didn't have to wait too long to get back on level terms. Jassim Alali scooped out a pin-point cross for the completely unmarked Martin-Wyatt to powerfully head home from a standing position.

Luke McCrum was agonisingly close with a powerful header before Clipstone had a big chance to regain the lead from the penalty spot. Nicky Walker cleverly drew a challenge from Greg Kidd that had enough in it for referee Elliott Heward to point to the spot.
Walker too the kick himself, shooting low to Osbournes' right, but the keeper read it right with a fine stop.

Hernandez' left post came to the rescue again when right winger for the afternoon – Tim Robertson cut inside and drove a shot against it. Garforth didn't have to rue their bad luck for long though. In a move that involved good work from Martin Wyatt and Jones, it was the surprise figure of Danny Harris that rose like a salmon to beat former Miner Liam Royles and nod home just before half time.

The visitors had were awarded a second penalty minutes into the second half when Walkers' trickery got the better of Spencer Lund. This time James Ashmore took responsibility and placed the ball on the spot. After a brief discussion with Osbourne (perhaps a bit of psychology from the keeper), Ashmore re-spotted the ball before ending up being the third player to strike that bloody post!

Ashmores' next strike was far better, but spectacularly had the same result. After trapping a corner kick with his chest on the edge of Towns' box, he leathered a brilliant volley that cannoned off the Garforth bar. The kind of strike that would have got an ovation from both sets of fans had it been inches lower.

Martin-Wyatt forced Hernandez into a fine fingertip save before Clipstone pulled level through Milners' alertness in front of goal.
Left back Michael Trench tried his luck with a twenty five yard strike that bounced wickedly in front of Osbourne. As the ball bounced free, the Clipstone number nines' gamble paid off and he nipped in for his second.

Mark Simpson came on for Martin-Wyatt and his impact almost helped Garforth grab a late winner, firstly when he teed up Harris, whose effort was blocked on the line and then when his own effort was blocked at the death.

Although it wasn't the three points the performance deserved, this was a huge improvement and Town had a real goal threat all afternoon.
