The windy conditions meant this was probably never going to be a feast of football, but Garforth got the job done to end a run of four league defeats in a scrappy encounter on Cedar Ridge.
Town had the better of the chances in the first 20 or so mins of the game, and on four minutes took the lead for the first time in six outings. From a corner kick on the right Dane Winn's shot was blocked by the defence, the ball fell to Ashley Preece who's shot took a deflection and found the net through a crowd of players.
A good chance came Curtly Martin-Wyatt's way on 18 mins when dispossessing Brigg's joint player-manager Scott Hellewell, but after finding himself clear lashed against the side netting.
The visitors gradually came into the game with midfielder Elliot Broughton their biggest threat. After being let in by a mistake at the back on 23 mins, Broughton made his way inside and had a strike deflected wide for a corner kick. Ben Hunter made his first save of the game on 36 mins, denying Finn Kelly's wind assisted 30-yarder. Joint player-manager Paul Grimes went close a minute before the break with a low shot which Hunter dived low to his right to keep out.
The Zebras started the second period as they'd ended the first; Kelly shot wide five mins in after Grimes won the challenge with Dane Winn in the area and on 67 mins Broughton got the better of Khalid Alali and forced a good save from Hunter with a low shot at his near post. Sandwiched in between those Martin-Wyatt tried his luck from distance but his effort was wide.
Danny Harris had a glorious opportunity to double Town's lead on 69 mins after great work by Martin-Wyatt down the right. Receiving the ball on the edge of the area, he opted to beat a couple of defenders when shooting first time looked the better option, his eventual shot being blocked.
A couple of chances then came Grimes' way down the other end but he couldn't find the target, shooting wide on 73 mins after being supplied by Broughton, then moments later the two combined again on the edge of the area with the same result. Substitute David Bean had the ball in the net on on 79 mins when racing clear, but the offside flag was raised.
Given Garforth's recent run of results, a 1-0 win certainly wasn't to be sniffed at, but the amount of late goals we've conceded lately meant it particularly pleasing when a crucial second was scored four mins from time. A cross-field move saw sub Spencer Lund find Harris on the left to beat Oliver Fisher and fire superbly across ex-Garforth keeper Jody Barford into the far corner. A real reminder of how moments of quality like this can win games.
The confidence flowed back into Adie Costello's men, and it was almost three after good work by Harris and Preece ended in Martin-Wyatt shooting wide from a narrow angle.
