Mark Simpson was the first to go close with four mins gone, forcing a block from Nostell keeper Ed Hall after being put through. Six minutes later The Miners gave themselves an early lead. A flowing passing move ended in Curtly Martin-Wyatt releasing Luke Mangham to slot home into the bottom corner. Mangham almost grabbed himself a second on 13 mins when he was let in by the Nostell defence but they recovered well to dispossess him before he could pull the trigger.
Welfare's first chance fell to ex-Garforth man Craig Tonkinson on 16 mins when he received the ball on the edge of the box and shot wide via a deflection off Danny Harris. Only a minute later Harris was down at the other end, making a great run through the defence and seeing a low effort strike the post.
A couple of chances for the visitors around the 20 minute mark saw a Craig Billington free kick claimed by Ben Hunter and the same player fire just over the bar shortly afterwards after being supplied by Tonkinson on the edge of the box.
On 38 mins Tim Robertson made an excellent run and try his luck from 25 yards out, his low strike going just wide of the post. It appears one of his teammates speculated whether he could do better from distance and only three mins later did exactly that. Receiving the ball 35 yards out Martin-Wyatt found space and rifled a thunderbolt into the top corner for his first competitive goal of the season.
After a good first half from a Town perspective the second was a bit scrappy with the first serious chance not arriving until the hour mark. Jassim Alali made a crucial block from Connor Judson's effort after he found himself free in the box and a few minutes later an almighty punt upfield from Hunter saw Martin-Wyatt bring a save from Hall with a powerful drive. The ball was duly returned by Hall and Hunter denied a similar effort from Billington seconds later.
In contrast to the last couple of meetings where Danny Critchlow or Rob Boardman gave Town a torrid time at the back, Nostell seemed to lack an obvious danger man and their best opportunity of the half came on 73 mins from an indirect free-kick. It was one they spurned however with Judson blazing over the bar on the edge of the box.
Excellent work by Simpson on 80 mins saw him deliver into the six-yard box, a player in yellow couldn't convert and the ball fell to Thomas Smith who was challenged but penalty appeals were waved away. The introduction of Josh Moore on 71 mins had spiced things up going forward with some incisive play to the front man, although the last chance of the game fell to Moore himself five mins from time, forcing a block from Hall after being set up by Mangham.
In the end two goals were enough to seal a deserved three points and avenge the 6-1 hammering suffered at the hands of Paul Lines' men in February.
