The first half was a bit of a non-event from a Garforth perspective with all of the chances falling to Cleethorpes, and we were lucky to be only 1-0 down at half time.

On 6 mins Marc Cooper blazed over the bar from inside the box after being supplied by Caine Winfarrah. Cooper went closer from Lawrence Heward's ball in on 14 mins but his diving header was straight at Ben Hunter. Two mins later Hunter made a double save from Cooper's effort after racing clear and Brody Robertson on the rebound. Another chance fell to Robertson on 23 mins when he was let in by the Town defence. Hunter made a superb stop to block his shot, Robertson pounced on the loose ball but somehow skewed wide.

An Owls opener was surely on its way and it duly arrived on 31 mins when Roberts put in a cross from the right which found the net via a deflection off Dan Monfredi. It was almost 2-0 three mins later and the Miners were indebted to Hunter again when he brilliantly saved Robertson's powerful drive after he raced clear of the defence.

On 42 mins Robertson broke forward again only to blaze over the bar, clearly an off day for 2014-15's Premier Division top scorer.

A corner won just before half time was about the best the Town attack could muster in the first half and the small band of Garforth fans wondered where a goal might come from. Graham rung the changes at half time, introducing Spencer Lund and Jassim Alali (for Sinmi Oyebanji and Curtly Martin-Wyatt respectively). Our first chance finally arrived on 51 mins when Luke Mangham shot straight at goalkeeper Miles Fenty from just inside the box.

A break forward on 65 mins saw Mangham play in Mark Simpson who tried to chip the onrushing Fenty but his effort was over the bar. The hosts were still dangerous though and three mins later Cooper's clever backheel inside the box set up sub Louis Grant's header which Hunter managed to claim.

With the Lincolnshire side continuing to squander their chances, the Miners were given a glorious opportunity to get level when Simpson's shot from Mangham's cross was handled on the line by Darren Hanslip. Referee Robert Atkin immediately pointed to the spot and gave the captain his marching orders. Mangham stepped up for the second time in three games and sent Fenty the wrong way to equalize.

The Town players sensed an unlikely victory and came close twice in as many minutes when Mangham's header from a corner was cleared by a defender and from another corner Ross Shelton headed just over at the back post. The pendulum then swung the other way on 83 mins when Hunter saved from Cooper and moments Hunter was there again to turn Heward's header wide.

The game was then turned on its head on 84 mins when another counter attack saw a towering Mangham header set up Simpson to break clear and smash home via the post.

In something like eight mins of injury time, Alex Flett shot wide from a good position and finally Mangham raced away with only Fenty to beat but blazed well over. It mattered not however and we were able to record a first ever win against the Owls and recover nicely from the agonies of Tuesday. The hosts will call it a smash and grab, but last season the boot was often on the other foot for Garforth, making this a refreshing victory (or "refreshing change" if you prefer).
