A 4-0 defeat to a good side, but this was by no means a one-sided affair and had Garforth taken a couple of the numerous chances created, things may well have ended differently.

Things started badly for the Miners with our hosts taking the lead after only two minutes gone. Ashley Lattimore's free kick deep into the box was headed in at the far post by Corey Mortimer. Barton were on top in the early stages, attacking us with pace and only a couple of minutes later a free kick in a dangerous position saw Lattimore shoot straight at Hunter.

By the twentieth minute though Garforth had warmed into things. Mark Simpson was unlucky not to equalize when breaking clear and lobbing onrushing Barton goalkeeper Scott Drury but the keeper got a hand to it to deflect away from goal for a corner.

Danny Chambers almost embarrassed Ross Shelton on 22 mins when winning the ball from him and forcing a good save from Hunter. A minute later though it was 2-0, Chambers raced onto a long ball, spotted Hunter off his line and chipped him from 20 yards out.

Andy Hawksworth came close to getting us back into the game on 24 mins, putting a low shot wide from the edge of the box. Striker Curtly Martin-Wyatt probably should've done better shortly after from Tim Robertson's corner, meeting it at the far post but putting a downward header over the bar. More good work from Simpson on 29 mins ended in another Hawksworth chance but his strike went wide. On 35 mins Spencer Lund was denied by Drury at close range after being sent clear by Simpson.

The chances continued for Town in the second half; Martin-Wyatt came agonisingly close on 49 mins after good work at the edge of the box and firing a shot against the crossbar. Graham rolled the dice on 57 mins, introducing Sinmi Oyebanji and Nathan Perks but despite a good showing from both a goal simply wouldn't come. The Miners still had to survive a couple of hairy moments though around the hour mark; Hunter made an excellent stop from Chambers when picked out from the left, and Tom Darwood could only shoot weakly wide with only the keeper to beat after winning the ball inside the box.

Defender Dan Monfredi had been venturing up the field for set pieces in search of a first club goal and had the ball in the net on 70 mins, but referee Neil Guest had already blown up for a foul on Drury. Perks did well on 76 mins to knock a deep cross in from the byeline but the Barton defence were able to clear. Another delivery to the striker on 81 mins ended in him getting round his man but firing wide.

The Lincolnshire side seemed happy with their two-goal lead, but with Town pushing late on, they counter attacked and helped themselves to two more. On 83 mins Gareth Owen made a run down the right and found the far corner of the net from a narrow angle and three mins later sub Scott Phillips raced clear from Owen's pass and made no mistake when one-on-one with Hunter.

Plenty of effort here from our lads and a somewhat flattering scoreline, but a recall of the number of shots on target last night indicate a need to be much more clinical in front of goal if we're to push for the higher reaches of the table this season.
