Simon Rogers returned to the first eleven from injury, enabling Ross Shelton to move back into midfield. Mark Simpson also replaced an ill Curtly Martin-Wyatt. There was a first appearance on the teamsheet for striker Matt Marshall who was given a place on the bench.
In a strong start to the game, captain Andy Hawksworth (in his 90th appearance for the club) shot wide three minutes in, and on 6 mins Ashley Preece made a strong run but was denied by Brigg goalkeeper Ryan Ramsden.
The hosts created a number of chances in the half, but were often found wanting in front of goal. On 10 mins Brigg's Joe Barden forced Ben Hunter's first and only save of the half, the keeper diving low to his right to turn his 20-yard effort wide.
Tim Robertson stung Ramsden's palms with a powerfully struck 25-yard free kick on 15 mins. Town were playing some quality passing football and took the lead on 26 mins. Preece stole the ball from a defender on the left wing and squared for Mark Simpson in the box to slot home.
Four mins later the lead was doubled and it was Simpson again after being put through by Spencer Lund to beat his man and round the keeper to score.
On 38 mins Lewis Dennison probably should've done better from Jamie Barnwell's delivery into the box, but skewed wide when well-placed. Two mins later down the other end a great run by Robertson saw him pick out Luke Mangham who was unlucky to hit the woodwork for the second game running.
Into the second half and it was clear words had been said in the home dressing room as the Zebras set out to try and find a way back into the game. Only a minute in a Ryan Thompson strike was tipped over the bar by Hunter. Brigg are a side clearly to trying to play the right way but luckily for Garforth the final ball or finish was often lacking.
The Miners were relying on counter-attacks but with the Lincolnshiremen employing a high line, were often caught out by the offside flag. Good link-up play between Simpson and Mangham on 49 mins ended in Ramsden saving from Mangham at his near post.
In a good spell of pressure from the hosts on 71 mins sub Owen Mountain headed wide after being picked out from the right and two mins later Hunter made a good save to keep out Dennison's 18 yard drive.
Lund almost made it three on 77 mins after a ball upfield was flicked on by Mangham, but Ramsden had spotted the danger and raced out to deny him and a first Town goal for the midfielder.
Six mins later though the points were surely safe after some more incisive play from last season's top scorer. A foray down the left from Mangham saw him pick out Simpson in the box who duly obliged by firing into the net to complete his hattrick. And on 86 mins Mangham bagged one for himself to get off the mark for the season. Credit should also go to Preece, who provided his second assist of the evening with another determined run down the middle, putting Mangham through to finish well across Ramsden into the far corner.
The hosts managed one more chance when Joe Wilks' shot was caught by Hunter but the game was already up and the Miners were able to complete a convincing win.
