The game saw a return to the side for Jack McCarthy (who dual-registered with Harrogate Railway last week), replacing the unavailable Jassim Alali whilst Ross Shelton moved into midfield to replace Spencer Lund; Daniel Monfredi stepping in at the back.
In the first four minutes Ben Hunter made a save from Joel Sutton and shortly after Luke Mangham tested keeper James Hitchcock after being set up by Tim Robertson. Simon Rogers in the Town defence took a knock but was able to continue.
Bridlington were lively up front but Garforth's useful-looking partnership of Curtly Martin-Wyatt and Mark Simpson were able to give the Seasiders a headache of their own at the back. And it was the two players that linked up on 16 mins to put us ahead; Martin-Wyatt doing brilliantly to hold the ball up down the right for Simpson to sidefoot home from close range.
The lead threatened to last only seconds when Lewis Clarkson struck the post after an attack down the left. And shortly after that they came even closer when a foul by Shelton on Tim Taylor in the box saw the referee point to the spot. Sutton stepped up but happily for the Miners wasted the chance by smashing the ball high over the bar.
More opportunities followed; on 28 mins Danny Harris shot narrowly wide from a throw-in and down the other end on 35 mins Taylor picked out Clarkson to fire wide.
In what was thus far a decent game of football it was around this time the performance of referee Andy Dunne came to the fore, frustrating both teams and supporters with his decisions as the game went on. On 37 mins keeper Hitchcock handled outside his own area after Simpson broke clear, but the referee opted only to show him a yellow card.
Just before half time the dangerous Taylor volleyed over the bar after good play down the right.
As in this fixture last season an equalizer came early in the second half, but in contrast to Mangham for us in March it was Clarkson for Brid who grabbed it after being put through by Taylor to slide the ball past Hunter. Mangham almost put us ahead straight from kick-off with a superb run through the defence but agonisingly shot past the far post.
Towards the hour mark there were calls for a second penalty to be given when Hunter made a strong challenge on Clarkson to deny a goal-scoring opportunity but home players and supporters alike were fuming when Mr Dunne gave a goal kick instead.
On 63 mins Hunter made a good save from Ashley Allanson's drive from the edge of the box. The game was becoming increasingly fractious with a number of yellow cards brandished to both teams in the second period. Things reached a head on 64 mins when sub Ombeni Ruhanduka was sent off for abusive language only eight mins after coming on.
Nine minutes later the Miners were ahead again; a delivery in by Shelton was mis-hit by McCarthy but fell to Simpson amid loud appeals for offside to beat Hitchcock with a downward strike.
In what seemed like an age of injury time, sub Jamie Reeson shot wide after decent play by Waudby and Mangham was unlucky in the last kick of the game when smashing against the post.
The Bridlington twitter feed described our performance as "psychical". Make of that what you will, but from a Garforth point of view an excellent determined win against a good footballing side to make it two wins in two.
Sadly no video highlights for this one as Jon couldn't make the game.
